Some have criticized that the individuals opposed to the fish farms are not experts and have no proof of the pollution. For one, you can see it. Secondly, all you need is access to a computer to see what has happened in environments where fish farms have been permitted to exist for prolonged periods of time. See http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/04/110407092034.htm The fact that fecal matter, antibiotics, sea lice, disease, bacterial growth that strips the ecosystem of oxygen, etc., will spread in a plume in the bay is undeniable - the only issue is the extent of the impact it will have on tourism and the environment. The proponents of the measure, however, have failed to explain the added cost of maintaining the fish farm further out at sea, or at an alternate location. At a minimum, the legislation proposed is premature since the study of the added expense has not been made (or not been released to the public for debate), and so a reasonable conversation regarding a compromise between the two position cannot be had.
