    Right for the same-sex civil union is a fundamental human right of human beings. Exclusion of same-sex civil union sends out a message that unequal treament and discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and predjudice is still acceptable in Greek society. Right for same-sex civil union has nothing to do with feelings or emotions of other people or their philosophical or religious views when civil union is prescribed as a legal document only between same-sex partners and The State of Greece. There must be a freedom for legal same-sex union in the state as there is a religious freedom in Greece. As an equal principal of democratic society passing this law sends out message that same-sex couples are not less capaple of loving and forming relationships than any other couple. Many same-sex couples want to have civil union for all of the same reasons as their opposite-sex counterparts, e.g. publicly celebrate their commitmnet to each other for loving each other and having better legal security for themselves and/or their children. A legal certificate allows partners to prove their rights when challenged in any situation, like in emergency situations. It is especially important for same-sex couple because they are more likely to whitness prejudice against and denial of their rights than others. There is no denial that these people experience discrimination in schools, in their families, in religious ceremonies, and they are victims of hate crimes based on sexual preference. Being a visible part of the society will increase their commitment and strengthen acceptance, equality and participation in the Greek community and in the European Union. In many European countries the formal recognition of same-sex relationships has been in place for years. There has been no major reports for declining of society. In fact, the same-sex union has improved the society with less mental healt problems and wide acceptance of LGBT people in all sectors of life e.g. in workplaces and families with benefits for the economy. Passing of these laws leads to a healthier and happier life for all members of Greek society, even it doesn´t solve all of the problems that same-sex couples still face in Modern Greek society. Nevertheless, it will be an important step towards equal human rights for all in democratic Greece.
