The mobilisation of the Hellenic State to modernise the legislation, is a very welcome move in the right direction! Unfortunately, even this very capable Government, failed to produce a smart and unbiased solution to the key issue at hand. The international yachting community has been waiting years, for the Hellenic State to lift the cabotage rules and manage some sort of alignment, with the European Law. There is by now plenty of proof and data to substantiate the following points, also resonated in the comments by industry colleagues. • Unprecedented development & opportunities in the Yachting related economies of our neighbouring Countries i.e Turkey, Albania, Montenegro & Croatia instead of our own • Discouragement of any foreign investment on the yachting segment and related industries in our Country • Defamation of our Country in the international Yachting Market due to the unstable and hostile legal & tax framework of the yachting segment • Tremendous loss of revenues of our Country & especially our Islands o Ship perspective (bunkers, provisions, supplies, technical projects, berthing, shipyards, banking, logistics) o End user perspective (Hospitality, retail, tourism, events, entertainment, private aviation, luxury goods) • Our Ports and Marinas will remain ports of call / transit, losing the benefits, opportunities and revenues from a “Home Port” port of departure (bunkers, provisions, Supplies, VAT) • 21 days in a season of potentially 180 days is totally inadequate and will likely attract profiteering with no long-term commitment to our ports & Country With Kind Regards Nikolaos Patsiokas
